Education in Waller County
Our community takes education seriously and has been working hard over the years to provide quality education for our children. There are three main school districts within Waller County. Hempstead ISD serves the west and northwest portions of Waller County. Waller ISD serves the east, northeast, and portions of northwest Harris County. To the south is Royal ISD. In addition, a small portion of Katy ISD serves the far southeast corner of Waller County.

Universities and Colleges
Prairie View A&M University
Waller County is home to Prairie View A&M University, the second oldest university in Texas. Established in 1876, it is part of the Texas A&M system, one of the most respected college systems in Texas and the US. Consisting of eight colleges, PVAMU provides a variety of undergraduate programs, several graduate programs, and post graduate programs.
For businesses, PVAMU’s students represent a pool of skilled workers to recruit. Moreover, PVAMU’s significant investments into engineering programs and facilities provide businesses access to advanced research and development facilities. For residents, the education facilities offer many convenient opportunities for skill improvements. For example, the College of Business has scheduled its MBA courses on weekends and evenings, which provides Waller residents access to advanced business training during the non-working hours. While the main campus is located in Prairie View, a branch offering nursing training and education is located in the Houston Medical Center. Noted for quality research and medical facilities, the Medical Center provides one of the most challenging environments to learn and study nursing. Texas State Technical College
TSTC is well-respected throughout Texas as a premiere workforce training institution. Located in Waco, TSTC serves throughout the state by helping to meet the demands for a well-trained workforce. In Waller County TSTC has partnered with WCEDP to locate needs within the county and address those needs through custom designed workforce training in programs such as welding and industrial mechanics. The newest campus in the Lone Star College System, Cy-Fair College has already exceeded expectation with near capacity enrollment in its first year. Providing many services similar to Tomball College, many Waller County citizens find the short 20-30 minute commute to Cy-Fair in Harris County a pleasant drive on the way to a great education. While located in neighboring Brenham in Washington County, and only a short twenty minute commute from Hempstead, Blinn College is a two-year junior college that provides a variety of educational services including workforce development. Located in Tomball, Texas, Tomball College is part of the dynamic North Harris Montgomery Community College District that also serves the Waller ISD. A short 20 mile drive from the city of Waller, Tomball College stands as a model community college by providing services for college-bound students, continuing education, adult learning, and workforce development.
