Transportation & Infrastructure

Our transportation and infrastructure network ensures seamless connectivity and efficiency for businesses and residents alike. Strategically located on the west side of the Houston region, our county is well-served by major thoroughfares, rail lines, and aviation facilities, making it an ideal hub for commerce and travel. With quick access to the Port of Houston, Houston Intercontinental Airport, and extensive highway systems, Waller County offers ideal mobility for goods and people. With an infrastructure designed to support a thriving, connected community, Waller County is primed for business growth and development.

Major Thoroughfares

Waller County is well served by critical road,  rail, and aviation infrastructure. Strategically located on the west  side of the Houston region, major US, Interstate, and state roads  provide ample mobility for moving goods in and out of the area. We are  about an hour and a half to the Port of Houston, about one hour to  Houston Intercontinental Airport, and are served by Union Pacific  Railroad.

The northern portion of the county is serviced by  US Hwy 290, which connects Houston to Austin. Commute times to Houston  range from 30 minutes to an hour, depending on departure time and  destination. Travel to Austin ranges from one and a half hours to two  hours. Waller County is a great location for companies doing business in  either Austin, San Antonio, or Houston.

State Hwy 6 joins US Hwy 290 in the town of  Hempstead. Hwy 6 connects Waller County with the Bryan-College Station  area, home to Texas A&M University. Commute time to Texas A&M  from Hempstead is about 45 minutes.  To the south is Hwy 90 and  Interstate 10. Interstate 10 connects Houston with San Antonio. Commute  times into Houston along Interstate 10 range from 45 minutes to one  hour. During morning and evening rush, these times are doubled. To ease  the congestion along Interstate 10, new lanes are being built that will  make it one of the widest highways in the area.

In addition to these major roads, several  state-maintained FMs (Farm to Market) roads run throughout the county.  Of these, FM 359, FM 362, and FM 1488 are the most traveled. Each of  these roads connect the northern and southern parts of the county. FM 1488 also runs into Montgomery County connecting Hempstead to Magnolia.  FM 359 also runs into Ft. Bend County to the south.
