Waller County takes great pride in its commitment to education, from our local ISDs to higher education institutions. Our Independent School Districts, including Waller, Hempstead, Katy, and Royal ISDs, provide exceptional learning environments for thousands of diverse students. Prairie View A&M University offers diverse programs that support community development and prepare students for successful careers. The educational institutions in this community equip students with the skills needed to thrive in today’s dynamic business landscape, and directly build into the future workforce of this region.

Waller County Independent School Districts

The Waller Independent School District, established in 1887, encompasses 328 square miles in Northwest Harris and Waller Counties. The District serves the communities of Hockley, Prairie View and Waller. Waller ISD is one of the fastest growing school districts in Texas with eight campuses providing an excellent education to 7,400 students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade.

Katy Independent School District (Katy ISD) in Katy, Texas, is one of the fastest-growing school districts in the state, serving over 85,000 students. Established in 1898, the district has expanded significantly and now includes 44 elementary schools, 14 junior high schools, and 12 high schools. Katy ISD is known for its academic excellence, consistently ranking among the top districts in Texas, with many schools receiving exemplary ratings. The district offers a wide range of programs, including Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), and various career and technical education options. Community involvement is a cornerstone of Katy ISD, with strong partnerships with local businesses and organizations enhancing educational opportunities for students. Additionally, the district boasts modern facilities, including well-equipped classrooms, sports complexes, and fine arts venues, all dedicated to providing a comprehensive education that prepares students for success in college and beyond.

Encompassing 190 square miles, the Hempstead School District has one elementary school (PK-5), one middle school (6-8), and one high school (9-12). A new middle school was completed in the summer of 1997 and extensive renovations to the high school and elementary school were completed the following year. A new track facility was also completed in 1998 and current planning is underway for a new athletic stadium. Hempstead ISD has 1,638 students in grades PK, K-12 with a student-teacher ratio of 15 to 1. 

The Royal Independent School District is located in southern Waller County and serves the communities of Brookshire, Pattison, Sunnyside and surrounding areas. The district boundaries are FM 529 to the north, the Harris County line to the East, the Fort Bend County line to the South and the Brazos River to the West. This area contains a total of 161 square miles. 

Higher Education

Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU)

As the second-oldest public institution of higher education in the state of Texas, PVAM is well positioned for both community development and the education of the future workforce of the region. The university has over 50 buildings on 1440 acres and serves a diverse population of over 9,000 students. 

Economic Impact

The economic impact of Prairie View A&M University exceeds $765 million annually in Texas, supporting 5,300 full time jobs in the state. The University awarded 1,541 degrees in academic year 2018-19, facilitating more than $4.3 billion in lifetime earnings for the degree recipients.

MBA Programs at Prairie VIew A&M University

PVAMU’s College of Business offers a Master of Business Administration (MBA) designed to provide the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in profit or not-for-profit enterprises.  The program integrates various business disciplines to provide the high-quality educational experience needed to assume a leadership role as a manager or entrepreneur.

The program is flexible.  Students may choose the evening MBA program with courses offered in Houston at the PVAMU Northwest Houston Center or take advantage of the online MBA and earn their MBA completely online. (from pvamu.edu)

Prairie View A&M University’s Executive MBA is a two-year program with top accreditation, a convenient location and a cutting-edge blend of online and in-class instruction. With PVAMU’s EMBA program, you fast-track your career goals in a flexible and affordable format at an accessible location.
The Executive MBA (EMBA) Program is designed for experienced professionals and managers who must master key business principles to either grow their business, or move up in a company. Faculty and corporate mentors provide useful tools and a framework for crafting sound business strategies and understanding vital business tools and philosophies. It is also a great chance to network with people from other industries.

The Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship (CIE) was established with a grant from the U.S. Department of Education. Activities and programs available through the CIE are designed to support and strengthen the existing programs and infrastructure in entrepreneurship across the entire PV campus. This enables the Center to serve all students in all disciplines at Prairie View A&M University. 

Participating in the Center’s programs will enable student entrepreneurs to have the critical and creative thinking skills to recognize an opportunity, a problem or a change in the world that they can take advantage of. (from pvamu.edu)
